Gas has a distinctive odor and most times you can locate the source of the leak by following this odor. If you smell gas you should temporarily turn off the power to the home until you can locate the source this will reduce the risk of the gas being ignited.

Some places to check for a gas leak would be your gas stove, see if the pilot light has gone out if that is not the case check to make sure all the burners and the oven are turned to the off position.
