image_resizeA bearing puller is a tool that is designed to make the removal and also the installation of bearing simple and efficient.

The puller looks something like a pair of scissors. Some pullers will extract both the bearings and the gears and with the different sizes of pullers you are able to use them on anything from a pair of skates to large industrial machinery.

The way it works is one part of the puller presses against the casing while the inner part pulls the bearing out or into it's socket. Since the puller applies pressure evenly without any impact and transitions the bearing in such a way it does not cause damage to the casing that holds it. The approach with a puller is to use slow leverage to affect the movement rather than brute force.

Bearings can be removed without a puller but there is risk of damage to the casing.

You can usually find pullers about anywhere for your smaller applications, if you have large machinery you may want to check with the manufacture of the machine to see what they recommend.
