image_resizeSchedule 80 PCV pipe denotes PVC pipe of a standard wall thickness. Schedule means the wall thickness of the pipe. The wall thickness is responsible for the pressure capacity of the pipe.

No matter what schedule of pipe you have, the outside diameter is standard and the inside diameter decreases as the schedule increases. Any fittings will work with any schedule.

High pressure water - schedule 80 is rated at 200 psi and 73 degrees. A standard water system is rated at 65 psi. Schedule 80 is commonly used where water is under moderate to high pressure. Never exceed the pressure capabilities as the pipe could burst.

Insulating - Schedule 80 has a heavier wall that adds insulation that can help to maintain the temperature of the water in the pipe.

Underground - Due to thicker walls schedule 80 provides great strength. All pipe can compress so be sure to check the fittings as these can sometimes leak.

Code Requirements - In some areas schedule 80 is required. Always check and follow your building code requirements.
